Skärets history

Smögen enjoyed its heyday at the turn of the last century, and many a herring fishermen enjoyed prosperity at that time. One of them was Olof Persson. In 1897 he used some of his herring fortune to build a grand house at the eastern end of the harbour. In 1931 the villa was made into a cafe with its own bakery. It was then that the famous prawn sandwich was conceived. In 1995 a restaurant was opened on the premises and the foundation for what would become Skäret was complete.

Today Skäret is run by us, Oscar Gyllström, Thomas Sjögren and Scandinavian Resort. We work together to provide you with the foremost dining experience in Bohuslän. Food prepared from the best ingredients, served by the nicest staff on the west coast, with the finest view in Smögen.
