A story that began with a shrimp sandwich in 1931 — and continues to be baked, cooked, and served every day.
Our history
At the turn of the last century, Smögen was at the height of its prosperity, and many herring fishermen made their fortunes. One of them was Olof Persson. In 1897, he invested part of his earnings from the herring trade in building an impressive residence at the easternmost end of the harbour. In 1931, the villa was transformed into a café with its own bakery. It was here that the famous shrimp sandwich was born. In 1995, a restaurant moved into the premises, completing the foundation of what would become Skäret.
Today, Skäret is run by Oscar Gyllström, Thomas Sjögren, Douglas Fyhr, and Åsa Viken. Together, we are dedicated to creating the finest dining experience in Bohuslän. Food prepared with the very best ingredients, served by the West Coast’s friendliest team, and enjoyed with the finest views in Smögen.

Accessibility: Skärets Café & Bistro is located on the ground floor, and we offer an accessible restroom. Unfortunately, Skärets Krog & Piano Bar can currently only be reached via stairs.
Taxi: Taxi Väst operates in Smögen. You can reach them at +46 (0)523-459000 or via www.taxivast.se
Zita Boats: During weeks 25–32, departures from Smögen run twice per hour, from 10:30 AM until late.
Hållö Ferry: During weeks 25–32, departures run twice per hour between 9:30 AM–2:00 PM and 2:45 PM–4:45 PM.
Accommodation: Both Smögens Gästhem and Pensionat Bryggan are perfectly located right by Smögen Pier.
Bus Station: Located near Havsvallen. Visit www.vasttrafik.se for current timetables.
Parking: Parking is available at the Tourist Information Centre, directly after the Smögen Bridge, and on Hamngatan by the bus station. Both parking areas are subject to a fee.
Guest Marina: There are 180 berths available, 44 of which can be reserved in advance. To make a reservation, please contact Dockspot at +46 (0)76-313 72 93.
Motorhome Parking: Available on Sandö, close to the Smögen Bridge.
